Though rhetoric about “clean coal” abounds, 36% of US global warming emissions comes from our coal-burning plants. Every 11-1/2 days, the explosive equivalent of the Hiroshima atomic bomb is unleashed on the mountains of southern West Virginia and eastern Kentucky—for coal. Burning the Future: Coal in America examines the explosive conflict between the coal industry and residents of West Virginia. Confronted by a global reliance on coal-generated electricity, local activists watch the world praise coal without regard to the devastation caused by its extraction.
