I moved from Eagle Point, OR to Boston, MA on August 27th 2002 (correct me if I'm wrong Mom).  My parents co-signed my student loans and off I went, although it's never as simple as that.

"Since I started working here, I've been given opportunities to learn about (and hopefully eventually work with) non-profit organizations that blockade foreclosed homes, rehabilitating disabled/ homeless veterans, and working with inner city children."

The Evolving Mission of My Walkabout

Over the past month, I've had to put a lot of thought into my motivation for this walk.  

Explaining myself several times a week to friends, coworkers, and strangers has honed (and altered) my response. I'm walking from Boston to Washington D.C. for several reasons. Without getting too into the politics of it, there is a pretty severe disconnect between state and federal legislation.  


As we've seen with "hot button" issues like abortion and cannabis reform, the federal government has a habit of stepping in when it suites, violating any tacit agreements between state and federal government or implied sovereignty of state legislation.  That being said, there's also a pretty severe disconnect on the end of the American public.

Keep on keepin' on

Well shit, it's been a while. Work work work work work, life interrupts. Besides the usual tomfoolery on twitter, I've been researching up and coming legislation nationally, as well as gathering information on upcoming changes in voter registration laws.

I'd geared up, leaving the house early tonight at 9:30PM instead of 11:00PM like I normally would for my overnight shift working marketing. I walked up Comm. Ave through Kenmore on a usual route to Commonwealth Mall.  It was nearing the midnight hour when I hit the  now Occupy MBTA Beacon Hill encampment/ protest, Camp Charlie.


As usual, when I got to the camp, I was out of breath, the walk up Beacon St. from Charles kills me every time.  I was stoked to see an opening on the steps, foot and back sore I took a seat.  Maybe get a chance to talk to some cats that wouldn't sweat my crazy idea to walk to Washington.  Posting up on the steps, chatting with a fellow by the name of John and coming to a brief understanding on context with a nod to past experiences at Dewey.
